For 38 years, this seat has been held by Speaker Emerita Nancy Pelosi. The outcome of this race will determine who speaks for San Francisco in Congress for years, shaping our community’s voice on foreign policy, housing, climate, public safety, and the future of American democracy.
This free public forum, held in Golden Gate Park, will be the first debate on the Westside ahead of the election. This is a uniquely consequential election. There is no incumbent, and the decisions voters make now could define our representation for a generation. Ballots will be mailed in just a few weeks.
Please join us. Click here to register now for this public forum: Congressional Candidate Debate Registration. Seating is limited and advance registration is recommended.
This debate is sponsored by SHARP, with Stop Crime SF and other community groups co-hosting. We regret that this event falls near the beginning of Passover; unfortunately, it was the only time that worked given the candidates' and venue’s schedules.

The Taraval District is the largest and most populous police jurisdiction in the city, encompassing most of southwestern San Francisco. It is bordered by Golden Gate Park, Ocean Beach, Daly City, and 7th Avenue down to Highway 280. The Sunset, Parkside, Golden Gate Heights, parts of Forest Hill, Park Merced and many other neighborhoods are included in the district. This public meeting is co-sponsored by SHARP and Stop Crime SF.
Harmston was appointed as captain of Taraval Station in July, taking over shortly after Captain Brian Hoo was promoted and transferred to the airport division. Harmston has been a police officer for 25 years, and knows the Taraval district well, having previously served there as a sergeant and lieutenant. According to Mission Local, "he received a Gold Medal of Valor — the department’s highest honor — and a Purple Heart in 2003 after arresting an armed driver who was on parole. The driver shot at him and another officer."
